Kids at the Castle

Age Range: 5–12 Years:

Specifically designed for young golfers aged 5 to 12, with age-appropriate coaching and fun, engaging sessions.

Fundamentals of Golf:

Covers all core aspects of the game, including grip, stance, posture, swing basics, short game skills, and putting. Fun based coaching on Toptracer shot tracers and short game area.


6-Week Coaching Blocks:

Courses run in structured 6-week blocks throughout the year, allowing players to join at multiple points and progress steadily.

Weekly Skill Focus:

Each session focuses on a different aspect of golf each week, keeping learning varied, engaging, and well-rounded.

Stage 2

Junior Development

Introduction to On-Course Golf Tuition:

A guided first experience of playing golf on the course, helping players transition from the practice area to real playing conditions in a supportive environment.

Golf Etiquette and Rules:

Learn the essential rules of golf and proper etiquette, including safety, respect for other players, and maintaining pace of play.

How to Navigate the Golf Course:

Understand how to get around the course confidently, including teeing areas, fairways, greens, hazards, and basic course layout awareness.

Programme Cost:

Total cost of the course is £300, offering excellent value for structured coaching and on-course experience.

12-Month Coaching Course:

A structured programme delivered over six months, allowing players to develop.

Stage 3

Junior Academy

Introduction to Course Management:

Learn how to navigate the golf course confidently, including shot selection, club choice, risk management, and understanding different course layouts.

Score-Based Tuition:

Coaching focused on improving scoring ability, helping players track performance, manage mistakes, and develop strategies to lower scores in real playing conditions.

Play a Variety of Golf Formats:

Experience different formats of golf to build adaptability, enjoyment, and a broader understanding of how the game can be played socially and competitively.

Independent 9-Hole Play:

Develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to play 9 holes of golf without assistance, including rules, etiquette, pace of play, and course awareness.

Stage 4

Junior Performance

Squad based coaching MAX 6 kids in a group:

Improve the players technical fundamentals and improve course

Management and scoring ability on the golf course.

Detailed Mentoring from PGA pros

To create a pathway onto County programs with the Renfrewshire and Glasgow Golf Union, as well as National Level with Scottish Golf as well as the option of representing Mearns Castle in competitive golf

Selection Category:

  • 12- 18 years of age

  • Handicap 28 or better

  • Playing regular medals and Club competitions

  • 6 x 2-hour coaching sessions

  • 4 x 1hr one2one parent and coach meetings in the year (in person or

  • phone)

  • General Fitness plan from DL Fitness
